Si è chiuso con successo nella splendida cornice del porto di Cagliari il 1° Campionato Europeo Team Race Youth U22 della classe RS AERO
Dodici equipaggi internazionali si sono confrontati tra il 28 e il 30 ottobre scorso nel 1° Campionato Europeo Team Race U22 organizzato dalla Lega Navale del Sulcis ed il Circolo Canottieri Ichnusa di Cagliari nella splendida cornice di “Su Siccu”, elegante porticciolo del capoluogo sardo.
La regata a squadre RS Aero Youth, la prima di questo genere in Sardegna è stata soprattutto una regata innovativa nella formazione della squadra perchè composta da un ragazzo e una ragazza, entrambi under 21.
Il porticciolo di Su Siccu ha poi dato l’opportunità al pubblico di seguire da vicino la competizione e di far sentire ai ragazzi tutto il calore del pubblico.
La gara è stata vinta dall’equipaggio Black Team della Gran Bretagna composto da Becky Caiager e Martin Atilla, secondo classificato il team della Svezia con Vanja Ramm-Ericson e Elliot Hellstrom, terzo posto sempre alla Gran Bretagna con Sasha Tydeman e David Peaty.
Dopo il primo Campionato Italiano RS Aero 5 Youth 18 tenutosi al Tognazzi Marine Village a Roma, e in
seguito al Campionato italiano RS Aero Open svoltosi a Santa Marinella, al Circolo Nautico Guglielmo
Marconi, si è finalmente giunti nel prestigioso campo di gara di Su Siccu, dove ha sede il Circolo Canottieri
Ichnusa di Cagliari in un clima di grande festa. Una formula quella proposta dalla Classe italiana che punta soprattutto alla classe gemella, ovvero quella O’Pen Skiff e alle categorie di giovani atleti pronti al passaggio di classe.
Grande soddisfazione anche da parte degli organizzatori della manifestazione sportiva che hanno dimostrato come la Sardegna e in particolare Cagliari possono ospitare competizioni di grande livello come quella che si è appena conclusa. I giovani velisti, grazie anche allo splendido clima del fine settimana, hanno avuto modo infatti di confrontarsi tra loro, ma anche di conoscere le bellezze della città, immagini e ricordi che sicuramente porteranno con se nei luoghi di origine.
Cagliari trasmettendo i valori dello sport alle nuove generazioni dimostra di essere una città per i giovani ed è su questo che punta sia la lega Navale del Sulcis che il Circolo Canottieri di Cagliari che quest’anno ha compiuto 131 anni.
Intanto proprio Cagliari e Roma saranno le basi che accoglieranno nei circoli di riferimento (per Cagliari la Lega Navale del Sulcis) i giovani nel testare le barche RS Aero 5 e 6.
Tutto sembra far presagire un decollo con successo per progetti indirizzati alle categorie giovanili
La RS Aero è uno scafo che pesa appena trentuno chili. Tale imbarcazione, prima del passaggio a classi olimpiche e preolimpiche, permette agli atleti più giovani di sperimentare un nuovo concetto di conduzione: la barca pesa meno del suo timoniere. In questa dimensione si assicura uno sviluppo corretto e robusto fino alla completa maturità fisica dei vent’anni.
Per il 2023 sono previste ben cinque tappe del Circuito Italiano RS Aero tra Sardegna, Lazio e Lago di Garda. A Calasetta, poi, ci si concentrerà sul Campionato del Mondo Youth e Master, con ragazzi tra i 17 e i 20 anni, i quali si sfideranno in regate a partenza separate.
L’inverno sarà fondamentale per coinvolgere i velisti più giovani, in procinto di cambiare classe, alla scelta RS Aero.

The first RS Aero European Youth Team Racing Championship concluded in the wonderful backdrop of the harbour of Cagliari.
Twelve international teams competed from 28th to 30th October in the first European U22 Team Racing Championship organized by the Italian Naval League of Sulcis and the Circolo Canottieri Ichnusa within the beautiful backdrop of “Su Siccu”, the elegant marina of the Sardinian capital.
Team race RS Aero Youth, the first of its kind in Sardinia, has been quite an innovative one regarding the team line-up, as it consisted of a male and a female, both under 21.
The marina of Su Siccu also gave the audience the chance to closely attend the competition and to make the athletes feel supported by its great enthusiasm.
Great Britain’s Black Team composed of Becky Caiager and Martin Atilla won the race, second place went to Swezerland’s team Vanja Ramm-Ericson and Elliot Hellstrom and third place was caught by Great Britan, again, with Sasha Tydeman and David Peaty.
After the first RS Aero 5 Youth 18 Italian Championship held at Tognazzi Marine Village in Rome, and the RS Aero Open Italian Championship held in Santa Marinella, at the Circolo Nautico Guglielmo Marconi, the prestigious competition field of Su Siccu finally came, where the Circolo Canottieri Ichnusa has its offices. This formula, proposed by the Italian Class, aims especially at the twin class, namely the O’Pen Skiff one and the youth athlete categories ready for an upgrade.
This event has brought great satisfaction to the organizers, among all, who have proven the great value of Cagliari as a location for high-level competitions. The young sailors, thanks also to the splendid weekend weather, have in fact had the opportunity to confront each other, but also to get to know the beauties of the city, images and memories that they will surely take with them to their places of origin.
Cagliari, imparting the values of sport to new generations, is proving to be a city for young people which is what both Sulcis Naval League and Circolo Canottieri Cagliari, that has turned 31 this year, are aiming at.
Cagliari and Rome will be the bases that will welcome young people to test the RS Aero 5 and 6 boats in the reference circles (for Cagliari, the Sulcis Naval League).
Everything seems to predict a successful take-off for youth projects.
The RS Aero is a barely 31 kg hull and, before the transition to Olympic and pre-Olympic classes, allows younger athletes to experience a new concept of management: the boat weighs less than its helmsman. Consequently a correct and robust development is ensured up to the complete physical maturity of twenty years.
Five stages of the Italian RS Aero Circuit between Sardinia, Lazio and Lake Garda hav been planned for 2023. In Calasetta, then, the focus will be on the Youth and Master World Championships, with young athletes between 17 and 20 years old, who will compete in separate races.
Winter will be essential to involve younger sailors who are about to change class, to the RS Aero choice.
